You Have a Village
Perhaps you’ve read or heard about the “epidemic of loneliness” that we are experiencing. Many attribute it to the pandemic lockdowns, but the truth is this epidemic of loneliness began long ago. I couldn’t tell you when, but I am certainly glad that loneliness is being recognized and openly discussed.
One of the loneliest times any of us can experience is when we set out to try something new. You may know that many people reach out to me when they are first starting a business, or considering it. Time and time again, the common thread is not about me–it’s about the power of relating to someone who has done it before. I was reminded of this recently when I was reconnected with a member of my leadership coaching cohort–she was so empowered by the knowledge that what she was experiencing, what she was feeling, had been experienced and felt by someone she knew.
Connecting with someone who is having or has had a similar experience makes us feel seen and quiets the fear and anxiety of a new experience.
I’ve known this for awhile–it’s why connection is one of the core values of Triciapedia. It’s not just about knowing the right person for the job. It’s about making the time to cultivate relationships. It’s about being purposeful in maintaining your network. It’s about showing someone that you were afraid and you did it anyway.
